The term plumbing covers a wide range of professional skills, both inside and outside commercial and domestic properties. From piping in your mains water supply, to carrying circulating water through your heating system, to feeding bathrooms and kitchens, to laying drainage, waste and sewage pipework. Here at No1 PHD, we have long serving, fully qualified tradespeople, capable of carrying out all your plumbing installation work from start to finish. The following is a small selection of the types of plumbing installations No1 PHD can help with in your home.
With increasing populations, especially in the UK’s big cities, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the country’s big water companies to supply the high quality drinkable water we’ve all come to expect when we turn on a tap. Nonetheless, except for the very rare occasion, they manage to do it, day-in, and day-out.
Here at No1 PHD services, we also play our part in ensuring that you get the purest water possible out of your taps. All our plumbing materials, piping, fittings, and accessories comply with the latest regulations, bylaws, and water supply regulations. To ensure the water delivered from the mains to your home continues to be of the highest quality, free of any possible contaminants or impurities.
More people than ever before are choosing to stay longer in their homes. Preferring instead to extend or upgrade as the family grows. Downstairs toilets, en-suite bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom extensions or refurbishments, and kitchen-diners; all have enjoyed the attention of our teams of plumbers and gas safe engineers. Whether you just need your hot and cold taps repositioning for your new kitchen, a new heating system, a wet room plumbed in, or maybe a new bathroom suite installed, our heating and plumbing teams are happy to discuss your requirements.
If your home is post-1970, you’re safe. After 1970, European plumbing legislation banned the use of lead in a large variety of products, including using lead pipes to carry water and other liquids. If however, your home is pre-1970, the pipework from the mains into your kitchen may still be the original lead pipework.
With so many properties in our towns and cities dating as far back as the 1800s, No1 PHD systems undertake many plumbing installations to remove dangerous lead pipes, and replace them with the latest Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE) pipes. Lead pipes will be dark grey in colour, and if you scratch a little of the oxidization from the pipe it will be a bright silvery colour.
More likely to affect older properties, are those annoying patches of damp that seem to appear, especially on downstairs ceilings or partition walls. Then they dry out. A brush-full of paint to cover the water marks and it’s forgotten about. Until the next time it appears. It may be just condensation, where warm air from your central heating system comes into contact with cold copper pipe running between the floor joists, or pipes in the wall carrying water to the upstairs area.
However, if the damp begins to appear on a more regular basis, it could well be old plumbing connections or joints which are beginning to leak. In the early days the leak may be so small that heat from your heating system, or warm summer temperatures, are enough for the water to evaporate before major damage is done. But the leak will only get worse, and major damage will occur if the joint fails completely. No1 PHD’s pipe repair plumbing engineers have the equipment and skills to pinpoint failing joints or connections with minimum disruption, and rectify the problem before it becomes a catastrophe.
